I-Pace Concept, electrical bet Jaguar

Jaguar has unveiled its electric bet to compete with Tesla, and he has presented in the country of his opponent, at the LA Auto Show. Good strategy.

jaguar-i-pace-1The I-Pace will be manufactured in Austria at Magna Steyr plant thanks to an agreement signed by Jaguar Land Rover to develop vehicles with the Austrian company and reach customers in the year 2018 with a range of 500 kilometers.

With futuristic design and conceived to be exclusively an electric car, Jaguar shows that did not come to compete in Formula E by chance and that the new I-Pace will be a great competitor to the Tesla Model X.

2 synchronous permanent magnet electric motors, placed one on each axis, will produce a combined capacity of 400 CV and allowing the I-Pace reach 100 km / h in about 4 seconds. Also, the pair will be distributed in 4 Wheel.

jaguar-i-pace-2To achieve those over 500 km of autonomy, battery has 90 kWh capacity. Recharging can be performed in a domestic plug or by a charger 50 kW. Jaguar says that in the second case recharges the 80% in 90 minutes and 100 % in just over two hours; does not recharge in a normal plug, that according to our calculations would be minimal 39 hours (in a wall 230 V y 10 A).

The battery is lithium-ion (thanks to an agreement with LG) and it has a liquid cooling circuit with a radiator. The air conditioning system can work in cooling if necessary. To heat the passenger compartment is a heat pump instead of a system of electrical resistances, Since it is a more efficient method.

jaguar-i-pace-3The body is very efficient aerodynamically with a coefficient of 0,29. The tires are spectacularly large with 23″ and perhaps in the I-Pace of production does not become available, although in the F-Pace wheels can be mounted up to 22″. We will see in 2018.

The front suspension is deformable parallelogram (by a double triangle) and a system of several rear arms called Jaguar “Integral Link”. It's the same scheme used in other models Jaguar, as the F-Pace.

The new Jaguar vehicle has five seats. In the cabin there are two screens, one for the instrumentation and one for the multimedia system, and a system information projected onto the windshield.

A great future movement begins “right from the start” with a new model to stand up to Tesla. We'll see if they get.
